Sarah Austin is a singing actress who is passionate about accessibility in the arts. This year, she was awarded a district encouragement award in the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition. Sarah specializes in music by living composers. She recently sang the role of Sister Helen Prejean in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking as well as the lead role of Dorothy in Kamala Sankaram’s provocative, techno noir opera Looking at You. Some of Sarah’s other favorite roles include Smeton in Anna Bolena, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, the title role in L’enfant et les Sortilèges, Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, and Little Buttercup in H. M. S. Pinafore. Sarah holds degrees from Davidson College and Carnegie Mellon University. She is a student of Dan Teadt. In the 2025-26 season, she looks forward to joining the Filstrup Resident Artist company at Tulsa Opera. Sarah currently resides in Pittsburgh, PA, where she is a member of the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus.
