Bio

Mary Beth Sederburg., earned her B.M. in Piano/Music Education at Mercyhurst University and her M.M. in Opera Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University. She has performed over 60 operatic roles and appeared with companies and orchestras along the East Coast and in Italy. Ms. Sederburg is originally from Erie, PA and lived in Pittsburgh, PA for many years. While living in Pittsburgh, from 2004-2017 she served as Artistic Director of Undercroft Opera, of which she also was the Founder. Undercroft Opera was a massive and successful effort to provide operatic performance opportunities to local artists, presenting over 30 fully staged productions with orchestra over the years. Mary Beth has led a multi-faceted career as a singer, educator, pianist, conductor, and organist, serving numerous congregations and universities over a span of 25+ years. She recently was honored to work with young singers at Carnegie Mellon University Pre-College Summer Program and Interlochen Academy of the Arts. Mary Beth moved to Decatur, IL in 2018 where she served as Music Director of the Millikin Opera Theatre at Millikin University for several years. At Millikin, she prepared singers for multiple productions and achieved a lifelong goal of conducting a full operatic production with orchestra (Cosi Fan Tutte). She currently serves as the Music Director and Organist of Decatur Grace Church and teaches at Taylorville Music Lessons. She is delighted to be singing with a rock band that features virtuosic faculty from the school in outreach programs. Finally, Ms. Sederburg is thrilled to return to sing for Pittsburgh audiences in a production with SERIO, this brand new and exciting company founded by her teacher and lifelong mentor, Ms. Louisa Jonason. For the past few years, she has been working on writing a science fiction trilogy, and will let you know when it’s finished!
